<Description>
Gold and silver diamond tiara in the form of a spray of Floral flowers and leaves mounted “en tremblant”, centred on a large open flower with curved petals, transparent set throughout and convertible into brooches. English, c. 1820
<Commentary>
When the rigid classicism of the Empire period was followed by a return to eighteenth century style naturalism sprays of roses, jessamine and pinks came back into fashion. At formal full dress events the spray here would have been worn across the head surmounted by nodding white osprey feathers and for less grand occasions it could be divided into separate brooches to pin on the dress. Whether worn as brooches or as a tiara the trembler springs would always give extra sparkle to the diamonds as they shook with every movement
