<Description>
Platinum tiara, the halo shape outlined with a continuous row of diamonds at the top and by the narrow circlet at the base. The space between is filled with a line of triple pairs of stylised laurel leaves interspersed with collet set diamonds, above a diamond arcade hung with husks terminating in collet set diamonds, graduated in size from the centre. The supports between rise from convex projections below, each enclosing a collet set diamond secured by a knife edge wire. Signed Koch, in original box. Louis Koch, German, c. 1910.
<Commentary>
Tiaras played an important role in German court life in the period which came to an end in 1914, but the fame of the firm of Robert and Louis Koch attracted Russians, Swedes and Polish clients at their branches in Frankfurt, Berlin and Baden Baden. The all-white halo shape of this tiara would suit most women, and the light shining from the diamonds swinging within the arcading would have drawn the eyes towards her as she moved.
